How I understood Srimad Ramayana?






I do not know Sanskrit and I am not a scholar and hence, I depended on the  translations of Srimad Ramayana.




I do not claim my writing on Srimad Ramayana is a literary work in nature. The GOD has given me an opportunity to read translations of Srimad Ramayana and to look and think it in a different way. 

Many scholars pointed out as follows:



The first (Bala) and the last (Uttara) Kandas of the Ramayana are later additions. The remaining 5 Kandas, i.e., Ayodhya Kanda, Aranya Kanda, Kishkinda Kanda, Sundara Kanda and Yuddha Kanda, represent Sri Rama as an ideal hero. However Balakanda is considered to be an original version, by some scholars, except for some injected (Prakshiptas) stories. According to them, the story starts from the 5th Sarga of Bala Kanda. 
 

In parts of Bala, Yuddha Kandas and the entire Uttara Kanda,  Sri Rama is made an avatara or incarnation of Vishnu, and the epic poem is transformed into a Vaishnava text."




I adore Sri Rama as a Prince of Ayodhya only, an elevated soul, strong follower of Vedic way life.  I did not want to see Sri Rama as an avatara of Lord Vishnu,  as it was not the intention of Sage Valmiki.  


Sage Valmiki, as per my perception, never thought of projecting Sri Rama as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He projected Sri Rama as a Role model for human beings and the upholder of many virtues, despite being a family man.
 

In Srimad Ramayana, the Sage Valmiki tried to project two exemplary male characters and one female character, Seeta.   Male characters - one is undoubtedly Sri Rama and the other one is Sri Hanuma.

Both are valiant, adherent to Dharma, knowledgeable, well versed in Sastras and Vedas and above all humble.


As far as I understood, the main thrust of Srimad Ramayana is ONE man for ONE woman and vice versa and honouring one’s word.





I must pay my humble respects to Late Sri Gunturu Seshendra Sarma for initiating a thinking process, through his Telugu literary work “SHODASI – RAMAYANA RAHASYALU”, within me about Srimad Ramayana.   


(Late) Sri Desiraju Hanumanta Rao & Sri K.M.K.Murthy, who with an intention to reach the very casual readers, besides scholars, translated in a lucid manner into English language and kept in internet
