Why Lord Hanuman is called BHAJARANGABALI?

Shri Hanuman is called Bhajrangabali.  I tried to understand why he was so called.  This name Shri Hanuman.

According to my understanding, the original word might be VAJRAANGABALI.  If we split this word, we will get 3 words.  VAJRA + ANGA +  BALI.

A) VAJRA indicates 2 meanings.
  1. It means THUNDERBOLT that we see during rainy season, indicating great celerity, power and effectiveness.  That is why the weapon of Indra is called VAJRAAYUDHA.
  2. It means a DIAMOND, indicating here the person having the strength of diamond
B)  ANGA means parts of body.

C) BALI means person having immense strength.

          By understanding the meanings of 3 words together we will get a different meaning, i.e., a person having immense strength, celerity and effectiveness in his bodily parts equivalent to a THUNDERBOLT or a DIAMOND.

----

When Shri Hanuman was about to fight with Simhika, a demon in the ocean, he was described as follows;

स तस्या विवृते वक्त्रे वज्रसंहननः कपिः |
संक्षिप्य मुहुरात्मानं निष्पपात महाबलः || ५-१-१९२

That Hanuma with great strength and with a body equal to a diamond, repeatedly contracted His body and fell into her opened mouth.

----

Please note the word वज्रसंहननःwith a body equal (in strength) to a diamond.

          This name VAJRAANGABALI of Lord Hanuma might have got corrupted in the Eastern parts of India to Bhajrangbali.   The sound VA will be spelt in the Eastern parts of India as BA.

For example:  the name RAVINDRANATH TAGORE will be spelt as RABINDRANATH TAGORE.

  1. It's true. In Lord Hanuman's ashtotharam, it said,
    'Om vajra kayaya namah'
    'Om vajra nakhaya namah'
