The meeting between Sri Rama and Sugreeva takes place and Sri Rama and Sugreeva take the oath of friendship before an altar of fire. Sri Rama assures to eliminate Vali, from the face of earth and Sugreeva promises to help Sri Rama for searching Seeta by sending his troops.
On enquired about, Sugreeva tells Sri Rama
about the cause of enimity with Vali.
After the demise of their father
Riksharajasa, all the ministers made
Vali the king of all the Vanara-s as he is the elder. Sugreeva had always bowed down to him like a
servant and stood by him.
There was a great enmity between this
Maayaavi, a fierce demon, and Vali owing to some female. Maayaavi arrived at the doors of Kishkindha one
night and blared very much inviting Vali for a fight.
Vali spurned all efforts by Sugreeva and
others to prevent him and forged ahead, and then Sugreeva also started to go
along with Vali. A great fear was
induced in that demon on seeing two brothers coming from a distance, and then
he quickly ran away.
Maayavi speedily entered an un-enterable
cavity under the ground, and Vali followed him keeping Sugreeva as a guard at
the entrance of the cavity.
Well over a year is over after his entering
into that cleavage, and after a long time blood with foam gushed out of that
hole, and on seeing it Sugreeva was deeply saddened.
Though sounds of screaming demon came to
his ear, the screeches of his brother
were unheard to Sugreeva. Sugreeva
surmised and concluded in mind by the indications that his brother was finished.
Sugreeva covered the cavity's opening with
a big boulder, and performed water oblations to his deceased
brother with saddening pain, and then returned to Kishkindha. Then duly summoned by all of those ministers Sugreeva
was crowned.
While he was ruling the kingdom
judiciously, Vali returned on killing that demoniac enemy but seeing Sugreeva
crowned his eyes were reddened in anger, and he arrested all Sugreeva’s ministers and he spoke rudely.
Vali could not be appeased in spite of
repeated requests as he is resolved to accept Sugreeva as an enemy. Vali
captured Ruma, the wife of Sugreeva and banishes Sugreeva from the kingdom with
the same thinking.
------
The reason for
Vali not getting appeased may not be anger alone. If it was so, it will wane away with the
passage of time. But Vali, apart from
banishing Sugreeva from his kingdom, captured Ruma, the wife of Sugreeva, and
enjoyed conjugal bliss with her, while Sugreeva is very much alive.
He might be
eyeing Ruma, his sister-in-law and is equal to his daughter, for a longer period and
might be waiting for an opportunity to capture her. Taking Sugreeva’s role in Maayavi episode as
a pretext, he grabbed Ruma.
