Ravana recalls
the over-powering of Lanka and discovering of Seetha by Sri Hanuma. He calls a
meeting of his ministers.
Ravana expresses
apprehension that Sri Rama, by his strength, could certainly cross the ocean
easily, along with his brother and army and he may even get the ocean dried up
or he may do any other thing by his valour.
Then, he invited
suggestions from them in view of the latest situation of a probable attack of
Sri Rama and his army on the City of Lanka.
The demons
inspire Ravana with confidence and eulogise his army's strength. They suggest
that Indrajit alone is enough to kill the army of Vanara-s together with Sri
Rama.
Ravana then said
that he wanted to remind them that all he done and achieved earlier was with
the previous approval of all of them. He
added that he could not inform the matter of abduction of Seeta earlier to
Kumbhakarna, who was asleep for the past six months.
And, now that
Kumbhakarna woke up, he wanted to narrate whatever happened in his absence. Ravana then narrates how he brought beautiful
Seetha to Lanka from Dandaka forest, because of his growing infatuation for
her. Ravana asks his companions and relatives gathered there, to suggest ways
and means to kill Rama and Lakshmana.
Then,
Kumbhakarna, Ravana's another younger brother first accuses Ravana of his
unworthy act but assures him that he would neutralize that dishonour by killing
the enemies.
It may be true
in Ravana saying that all he done and achieved earlier was with the previous
approval of all of them, but in the case of abduction of Seeta, he did not
consult anybody.
Now that Sri
Hanuma created havoc and preparations for an impending war were being made, he
wanted to win over all by appealing to them.
Though
Kumbhakarna criticises Ravana of his unworthy act like Vibhishana, he did not
part his ways with Ravana like Vibhishana.
He reminds me of Drona and Kripacharya in Mahabharata.
We will come across
people like Kumbhakarna, who will not approve unworthy acts but at the same
time they can not restrain their clan/own people from doing such unworthy acts.
They will perish
like Kumbhakarna for their oscillating minds and for their association with unworthy
people.
