Why do Christian Missionaries/atheists/Communists target Sri Rama and Ramayana?

Why do Christian Missionaries/atheists/Communists target Sri Rama and Ramayana to a major extent, while spewing venom against Hinduism?

By the time Christian Missionaries started their missionary activities in India, the higher spiritual concepts of Sanaatana Dharma aka Hinduism were degraded into rigid customs/rituals, which of no value at all. And, in many parts of India, oppression of  people belonging to lower rung of degraded Caste system, ie., Dalits, took place.
The Varna System is a fine example of such degradation in caste system. In Varna system, no rigid barriers were prescribed. Movement from one section of Varna to another is easy.
Sage Viswamitra, being a kshatriya, could become a brahmarshi, an ENLIGHTENED person.
The father of Sravana kumara, who was accidentally killed by King Dasaratha, was a Vysya and his mother was a Sudra. Still they got married and performing tapsya. Nobody objected to that.
Sri Periyar, though belonged to Balija Caste, might have observed the oppression of people belonging to lower rung of degraded Caste system, ie., Dalits, and started movement for social reforms in Tamil Nadu. The People from the oppressed classes found a messiah in him, like many people found a messiah in Dr. Ambedkar .
——-
Some of the oppressed people chose Christianity and some other Islam, though major chunk still remained with the Hinduism.
Parallel to this degradation, the new wave of ideas like Communism entered into the Indian soil.  Though the Communism has its own flaws in its core Principles itself,  still the new idea appealed to many people.
Still majority of the people clinged to the Hinduism.
This did not appeal to Christian Missionaries/atheists/Communists , who could not understand the higher lofty ideas of SANAATANA DHARMA aka Hinduism, and wanted to separate the majority of the people from their belief in Hinduism.
So they adopted multi-pronged approach to achieve their target.

The ideas of Indo Aryan theory, suppression of Dalits combined with socialistic ideas of Communits become very strong tools for Christian Missionaries for spreading their religion.

  •  The Hinduism should be divided into Forward class and Oppressed class of people.
  •  Target the rituals in Hinduism as useless
  •  Denounce the exemplary characters of Hinduism like Sri Rama as male chauvinist and project Jesus as the SAVIOUR
  • Denounce Sri Rama and elevate Ravana
  • propagate Ravana as Dravida Ruler, as everyone thought that the present day Sri Lanka (the then Ceylon) was the Lanka of Ravana and
  • Denounce Sri Rama as Aryan Ruler
  • Denounce Sri Rama as Casteist, by quoting the episode of Sri Rama’s elimination of Sabhuka, a Sudra, which was described in Uttara Kanda of Ramayana.
Very subtle strategy indeed and it has become successful.
Unfortunately, our first Prime Minister Sri Nehru, supported this theory, due to his half-baked knowledge.

Are these claims  correct, in respect of Sri Rama and Ravana?
a) Ravana
The authentic text on Ramayana is that of Valmiki’s only. The Valmiki’s Ramayana nowhere tells us that Sage Visrava, the father of Ravana was a Brahmana. It says that Sage Visrava was the mAnasaputra - son born out of thought, of Sage Pulastya.
Coming to the word “ mAnasaputra “, it does not indicate a biological son. A disciple, who is dearer to the Guru, is called mAnasaputra. So Sage Visrava was the disciple of Sage Pulastya only.
So we do not know the antecedents of Ravana, except this. However, during Ramayana period varna system, but not rigid caste system, was in force. Ravana himself claimed that he was a kshatriya - a person belonging to warrior class, in Sundara Kanda.
न खल्वियम् मतिः श्रेष्ठा यत्त्वाम् सम्प्रेषयाम्यहम् |
इयम् च राजधर्माणाम् क्षत्रियस्य मतिर्मता || ५-४८-१३"
This thought of my sending you is not indeed the best option. But, this decision is said to be according to the duties of a king and is the commendation of a warrior-class."
b) Ravana, a Dravida Ruler
It is a Myth. This idea born out of thought that the Ceylon, the present day Sri Lanka, was the Lanka of Ravana.
According to Ramayana, it is not the Lanka of Ravana.
Further, Ravana was described to be a scholar in various scriptures of Vedic era, and hence he was not a Dravida ruler.
c) Aryan invasion:
Ramayana was written in the era, when the word ARYA was used to indicate noble ideas only. We can come across the word ARYA, indicating noble ideas.
d) The episode of killing of Sambuka in Ramayana
It was in UTTARA KANDA of Ramayana that the episodes of exiling of Sita to Forest, Killing of Sambuka were described.
We have to remember that the entire UTTARA KANDA is an interpolation in toto.
e)  Sri Rama as male chauvinist :  This lie was based on an interpolated episode in the Yuddha Kanda of Srimad Ramayana.  The Vaishnavaites, who inserted this story in Ramayana with a view to elevating Vishnu as the SUPREME God, were to be blamed for this insertion, which portrayed Sri Rama in a bad light.
It is about Sri Rama disowning Sita, after elimination of Ravana and consequent episode of Sita jumping in to pyre.
------
We should also remember that in the Ayodhya Kanda of Ramayana itself, killing of an ascetic boy accidentally by king Dasaratha was described. And, Varna system was in force at that point of time.
The father of ascetic boy, who was accidentally killed by King Dasaratha, was a Vysya and his mother was a Sudra. Still they got married and performing tapsya. Nobody objected to that.
So how can Sri Rama go against the Varna system, which allows freedom of choice to all the people?

  1. Not only Dravida politicians from Tamil Nadu, but also the communists of Kerala also tries their level best to spread hatred towards Rama and Ramayana among the Kerala people.
In 1970s, a communist writer even the burnt the Ramayana in Kerala. When the spiritual masters like Swami Chinmayananda noticed that the Hindus of Kerala are not at all aware of the glorious Sanatana heritage, The Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Chinmaya Mission etc, started observing Ramayana month in Malayalam month Karkkidakam (mid July-August). Now, every year, the Kerala Hindus read and recite Ramayana every year during this time. It was mainly due to the efforts of Swami Chinmayananda and many other proud Hindus.
