There are similarities between story of Shri Hanuman of Valmiki Ramayana and that of Shri Ganesha.
—-
While flying as a mere boy to catch the shining Sun, Shri Hanuman was hit by Indra with thunderbolt, his jaw was broken and he fells dead. Enraged with that act his father Vayuu withholds his energy from the world thereby causing panic. Brahma, Indra and other gods pacify Vayuu by reviving Shri Hanuman and give boons to Shri Hanuman, including invincibility by any weapon and dying at will.
In Ganesha’s story, Parvati keeps the young boy Ganesha as a guard for her inner apartments and proceeds for bathing. Shiva arrives and Ganesha obstructs him, as per his mother’s orders. The enraged Shiva beheads Ganesha with his TRISHULA and Uma gets enraged. Shiva and other gods try to pacify her, give life to the behead Ganesha by placing a elephant head and give boons to him.
This is a Puranic story.
——
If one carefully studies both the stories, the following issues can be understood.
a) Whoever composed Ganesha’s story, replaced Shri Hanuman with Ganesha, Indra with Shiva and Vaayu with Devi Parvati. And, story was modified suitably, but keeping the main story intact.
In Ramayana, Indra hits Shri Hanuman, Vayuu gets enraged, all divinities pacify Vayuu and revives dead Shri Hanuman.
In Purana, Shiva chops off the head of Ganesha, Parvati gets enraged, all divinities pacify Parvati and revives dead Ganesha.
b) These stories have a deep SPIRITUAL significance. In fact, it depicts
the "dwija" tatva, ie., the 2nd birth in spiritual life.
A Dwija does not indicate one who has undergone Upanayana Samskara.
A dwija is one who experiences BLISS or SELF -REALIATION when one
reaches the culmination point in spiritual practices. resulting in spiritual,
but not physical, re-birth.
——
The story of Shri Hanuman indicate that he got BLISS or SELF -REALIATION even
he was very young.

Rig Veda mentions dwija concept, indicating a spiritual rebirth of
a person.
इयं मे नाभिरिह मे सधस्थमिमे मे देवा अयमस्मि सर्वः ।
द्विजा अह प्रथमजा ऋतस्येदं धेनुरदुहज्जायमाना ॥
iyam me nābhir iha me sadhastham ime me devā ayam asmi sarvaḥ |
dvijā aha prathamajā ṛtasyedaṃ dhenur aduhaj jāyamānā ||
“This, here, is my navel, and here is my seat. These gods here are mine, and here am I—the whole— having two births, first born of truth. This here did the cow give as her milk as she was being born.”
—-
The rishi of this Rik is explaining his experience. After he experiences the two births, he had become ONE with the ETERNAL DIVINITY aka the BRAHMAN, who is called the first born or prathamajā and found that he had become the source of everything.
