On hearing the command of the king of Vanara-s, Sugreeva, Millions and millions of Vanaras/Vanara-s arrive with their troop-leaders to the control of Sugreeva.
Sugreeva, while describing the lands,
rivers, mountains, etc, in each direction, orders
- vanara-s to search east under the leadership of Vinata, a mighty vanara,
- sends Vanara-s to southward, which troop includes Sri Hanuma, Jambavanta, Niila and others and Angada is its leader,
- sends troops to West side to search for Seetha under the leadership of Sushena, the father of lady Tara and
- sends troops to North side to search for Seetha under the leadership of Shatabali.
Sugreeva
ordered that none shall stay behind for more than a month, and if anyone stays,
he shall face death by him.
------
Sugreeva holds Sri Hanuma's capabilities
very high and reposes full confidence in him for locating Seetha. He said the following parting words to Sri
Hanuma.
"Even by your radiancy none on
earth is coming to mind, who can be a coequal of yours, thereby you alone shall
think about that process as to how to access Seetha.”
On seeing Sugreeva assigning the task to Sri
Hanuma, Sri Rama perceives that Sri Hanuma alone can achieve results and thus
hands over his ring to Sri Hanuma as a memorabilia enabling Seetha to recognise
Sri Hanuma as a messenger from Sri Rama without dismay.
-------
According to Srimad
Ramayana, the search for Seeta began in Aashviyuja Month (September - October).
Sri Hanuma's search for Seetha, together
with Angada and others has started. They search certain mountains and forests
belonging to Mt. Vindhya, but in vain. They enter many uninhabited forests and
places. Finally, when they reached the ocean, they found that spring season (Vasantha Kala- March- April
) has arrived.
Vanara-s on arriving at seashore are
awestruck to have a glimpse of unnavigable ocean, which is tumultuous with many
sea-creatures.Angada noticing the baffle of Vanara-s
pacifies them and elicits information about each vanara's capability to jump
over the ocean.
------
Vanara-s are perturbed to see ocean, which
is breadthwise a hundred yojana-s, as none can leap the entire length at a
stretch. Every important Vanara says that his capability is just lesser than
that of 100 Yojanas.
Jambavanta, the oldest one among all of
them, has informed them that though he had great strength in his young age, now
in the old age he can go only up to ninety yojana-s, which is short of 10
Yojanas.
Then, Angada says that he was confident
that he can jump 100 Yojana-s. However,
Jambavanta stops him saying that being Crown Prince and the leader of the
troop, he should not adventure for that task by himself, when he had abled
persons for accomplishing the task.
Angada is again despaired as none is coming
forward, nor he is allowed to go, in the name of his prospective kingship. But
Jambavanta pacifies him and starts to invigorate Sri Hanuma, who is comfortably
sitting abiding a lonely place, to undertake the task of leaping the ocean.
------
Here, Sri Hanuma is said to be sitting
'comfortably' far from the madding crowd of Vanara-s. When everybody is
clamorous how can he sit comfortably - is the doubt. I think, he is pondering
over as to how to deal with the situation.
Except Jambavanta, who by his age and
experience, and Sugreeva, who watched Sri Hanuma closely, nobody including Vali
appears to have understood Sri Hanuma’s capabilities.
And, Angada being the son of Vali might
be having the same opinion that his father had on Sri Hanuma. Angada did not get an opportunity so far to
experience the capabilities of Sri Hanuma.
He might have thought that Sugreeva and Sri Rama overestimated Sri
Hanuma.
On one hand, Sri Rama gave his golden
ring to Sri Hanuma in the presence of those very same Vanara heroes, and on the
other Angada is enquiring all the other Vanara-s of their capabilities for jumping
over the ocean.
Angada did not ask Sri Hanuma directly
to go over to Lanka based on Sri Rama’s confidence in Sri Hanuma. If somebody comes forward to leap, then
it is well and good and Sri Hanuma has to accompany that Vanara as a standby,
because he is handling the ring of Sri Rama.
If none comes forward, even in that
event he has to go to Lanka unaccompanied. In either case it is Sri Hanuma who
has to go, hence the 'comfortableness' is 'decisiveness'. He is waiting for the turn of events.
Jambavanta, being elderly and
experienced, might have observed all these things and initiated the action
required.
