Seetha asked him to narrate as to how did
he came into contact with Sri Rama Lakshmana and how did the union between Vanara-s
and men arise. She further asked him to
describe the characteristics and the appearance of Sri Rama and Lakshmana.
Sri Hanuma then started to describe Sri Rama
as follows:
"O Seetha! Sri Rama has his eyes
resembling the petals of a lotus. He has handsomeness, attracting the hearts of
all living beings. He is endowed with grace and dexterity, by birth."

"He is equal to the sun in splendour,
earth in endurance, Brihaspati in intelligence and Indra in fame. Sri Rama the
tormentator of his adversaries, is a protector of the world of beings, further
protecting his own people. He is the protector of his own behaviour and
righteousness. O Seetha! Sri Rama is the protector of the four Varnas of the
world. "

"He has four lines at the root of his
thumb (denoting his proficiency in the four Vedas). He has four lines on his
forehead (indicating longevity). He is 4 cubits high (96 inches). He has four
pairs of limbs (viz. the cheeks, arms, shanks and knees) equally matched."
"The invincible Lakshmana, is
resembling Sri Rama in appearance, affection and in qualities. Sri Rama and
Lakshmana, the two tigers among men, very anxiously desirous of seeing you and
searching all over the earth, came in contact with us."
Sage Valmiki described through Sri
Hanuma that Sri Rama’s height was 4 cubits (armlength) – chetushkishku. Many scholars taken the length of a Cubit (armlength) as 24 inches and calculated the height
of Sri Rama as 96 inches or 8 feet.
We do not know the exact age of Srimad
Ramayana and the actual length of a Cubit (an armlength), people used to adopt in that age.
If the average height of human beings in
a particular country or area 6 feet then the length of arm they adopt will be
different and if the average height of humans is 10 feet then different result
will be obtained.
